Objectives:

Students will locate information on the internet about Native Americans. They will answers to the treasure hunt questions. They will complete a KWL chart.

Assessment:

The teacher will check their journal activity from treasure hunt and completion of a KWL chart.

  

Provision for special needs:

peer partners for lower readers

Materials:

treasure hunts, web page, pencils, computers (lab)

Vocabulary:

Native Americans, wigwam, longhouse, tepee, buffalo, Iroquois, Anasazi, Cheyenne

Procedures:

Springboard (Anticipatory Set)

Activities:

T: Using the overhead make a KWL chart about the 4 Native American groups that are being studied. Move students to the lab. Introduce the web pages where students will be able to find the answers to the treasure hunt.

S: Working with partners, the students will use the internet links to locate and copy answers to the treasure hunt questions.

Closure:

Go back to the classroom and complete the KWL chart. Ask questions to discuss what they learned (using the internet, facts about Native Americans etc.).

Explanation:

I chose do this lesson with technology because it is a more interesting way to locate information. Also, we study Native Americans at the beginning of the year and we wouldn’t have studied outlining, note taking, and summarizing yet. This would be a good review of scanning for information. Children enjoy using computers and I thought they might be more enthusiastic about doing the assignment if they could use the internet.
