Class Assignments/Class Schedule SPE 331 Spring 2008 Content will be covered in a variety of manners. Each chapter in your text will require you to complete either a chapter summary, project or activity module. Please note due dates. It is important that you abide by these due dates. Late work will not be accepted unless you have prior permission in form the professor. ALL late work will be docked a minimum of 10%. Chapter Summaries: (Chapter 1-2, 6-7, 8-9, 17) Type all chapter summaries in a 14 pt font. Summaries should be emailed to the professor on the date due. Summaries should cover the following format: · Section 1- Chapter Content · Section 2- My individual new learning · Section 3-Application to future practice Chapter: Due: 1-2 1/23/08 6-7 2/20/08 8-9 3/12/08 17 5/7/08 Parent Handouts: (Chapters 3-5) Parent handouts will be completed on 2 disabilities as assigned. These handouts should be created in a tri-fold format. They should include information from your text as well as sources from the web where parents could find additional information about their child’s disability. This could include activities as well as information websites. Please make informative as well as aesthetically pleasing. These pamphlets will be shared with classmates and will become a part of your curriculum file. These should also be loaded to your website. Dr. Acklie will need an electronic copy as well as a paper copy. Site all sources in an APA format. Due on 2/6/08 Modules: Study Skills: (Chapter 10-11) · Error Analysis (use sample from practicum site) · Create handout for Study Skill strategy assigned (LINKS, AWARE, 3 & 5 Rs) · Create a mnemonic device Due 3/19/08Literacy: (Chapter 13) · 5 blank game boards · Create a handout for Reading strategy assigned (RAP, TELLS, DISSECT, Reciprocal Teaching) Due 3/26/08Math: (Chapter 14) · Complete electronic Touch Math Module · Complete electronic Touch Money Module · Create 5 math materials for file (Make and Take) · A file of 100 counters Due 4/9/08Sciences (Chapter 15) · Create a handout for Science strategy assigned (SQ3R/MULTIPASS, TRAVEL, IT FITS) · Tab activities within text for topic adaptations · Create a mnemonic device for science or social science Due 4/23/08 Art, Music, P.E., Foreign Languages (Chapter 16) · Tab activities within text for topic adaptations · Task analysis Due 3/30/08Curriculum File: Your curriculum file will be made up: · Module materials · Disabilities Handouts · Five activities per module gained from practicum. These will be documented and filed under appropriate topic Due 5/9/08Discussion Board: Weekly a new discussion question will be loaded to the discussion board. All students are to respond to the discussion question. Students may also post questions for the instructor/peers to the discussion board. Practicum: A 20 hour practicum will be assigned in a special education resource classroom. Students will be required to keep a log of hours, complete 5 journals over the experience within this classroom, return completed teacher evaluation. Students will gather 5 examples of materials used to teach module topics. Case Study: A child from Joshua’s Foundation will be assigned. Student will organize Health file, create a simple health plan and cognitive plan. Lesson plans and materials will be created for each objective. Due Finals Week
