Day 1: Preventing Injuries by Stretching Objectives: ? To show the students what muscles to use and stretch when bowling. ? To have the students stretch the muscles they are going to use when bowling. ? To teach the students how to stretch the muscles they will be using the most, and to stretch the ones that aren't used so often. ? To show them how important stretching is. ? To educate them about what injuries are associated with bowling and how to treat them.
Activity: The students will all line up and we will go over the muscles that they think will be used the most when bowling. The students will shout out muscles and I will tell them the correct names so they can refer to them by their proper names. I will them show them the proper way to stretch their muscles and especially the ones they will be using when they are bowling. The students will all mirror the stretches that I demonstrate. They will help each other stretch when they have to partner stretch. They will stretch and run a few laps during the class period. This may seem like a long time to stretch but the students need to know how important stretching is and why they need to do it. I will also go over the injuries that could occur when bowling and how you would treat them. The students would also be quizzed by me naming them injuries and they would tell me how to treat them.
Formation: I would provide the students with a model of the human body and the names of all the muscles on notecards. This way they can name the muscles and be able to see them on the actual model. There would also be a poster of different injuries and how to treat them that I will hang up in the gym.
Cues: The students would be called up and asked to stretch. The students will name the muscles on the model of the human body and point to them. They will also be asked to treat certain injuries that are named.
Evaluation: The students will be able to stretch the correct muscles by demonstrating to the class. They will point to certain muscles and name them correctly. The students will be given injuries and will have to treat them how they are supposed to be treated.
