On March 29, 2003, the 15th Annual Student Education Technology Association Conference took place at College of Saint Mary. Being an education major and with all the technology arising, I thought it was a good opportunity to learn about possible advancements for my classroom someday. The keynote speaker of the day was Tony Vincent from Omaha. He teaches 5th grade in the Millard Public School District. He presented palm pilots and how he used them in his classroom. His students also helped present by making a web video that he played during his presentation. Their presentation was very informative and creative and it looked liked they even had fun learning everyday. I, along with Jen Korth and Cassie Arthur, had to give a presentation of our own as well. This was a new experience for us and we really had no idea what to expect. This was our first time at any kind of conference. It was overwhelming, having teachers and students there from all over the Omaha area and Nebraska. We chose our presentation to be on digital cameras. We explained how they were used in the classroom and made a power point presentation, that is on this webpage, to inform the audience a little more. Unfortunately, we learned to not always rely on the Internet because it went down during our presentation. That made it a little more difficult to give any kind of presentation or use the computer for examples. I felt this conference was very informative but I also felt very uncomfortable. This was my first conference and on top of that I had to present to students and educators that were more knowledgeable than I was of so many other things. I hope in the future that incoming education majors will have a chance to attend either the NETA conference or some other kind of conference before they have to present at one. Just to get the feel for what is involved in presenting to others. I know that really would have helped me. |
