Title: Word Recognition Skills Author: Katie Law Grade: 1st NE STANDARDS: 1.1.1 By the end of first grade, students will read and write using a variety of word recognition strategies at grade one level. INTEGRATED DISCIPLINE: Language Arts, Art OBJECTIVES: · Students will be able to label pictures underneath them with the correct word. · Students will be able to say the name of the picture that’s on a card in front of them. · Students will be able to draw a picture for a word that is given to them. ASSESSMENT: · Students will take a worksheet and label the correct word under the picture. · Students will correctly say the name of the picture when it is shown to them. · Students will draw pictures for a word that is given to them. MATERIALS: Cards with pictures on them PROCEDURES Anticipating Set: Students will go around the room and see how many word cards they can match with the names of the pictures. Vocabulary: Word cards
Activities: T: Will hold up pictures and the students will tell the pictures are. S: Will tell what the pictures are. T: Will pass out a worksheet with pictures on them. S: Will label the pictures underneath. T: Will pass out papers with words on them and explain that they need to draw pictures that match the words. S: Will draw pictures of the words that are underneath them. Provision for Sp. Needs: I will help any students that cannot write or draw. CLOSURE: The students will have a good time with the pictures they drew and learn about the words and to recognize words when given the pictures.
