LESSON PLAN TOPIC: Technology TITLE: Exploring African American Women AUTHOR: Ashley Austin GRADE: Kindergarten Integrated Discipline(s): History NE STANDARDS: K
OBJECTIVES Students will use electronic resources(CD-Rom, on-line resources) ASSESSMENT (formative and summative): The students will go on a treasure hunt using the sites given and answer a big question at the end.
MATERIALS: paper, pencil, computer
PROCEDURES: Anticipatory Set Once the students enter the class we will first discuss some of the African American women they are familiar with then continue on to the women that are on the treasure hunt, next proceed to the treasure hunt. Vocabulary : History, internet, slavery, track and field, poet.
Activities: 1) We would begin by discussing what the children’s current understanding of women in black history. 2) Next I would give directions for the students, not having them at the computers yet. 3) The students would work in groups because of their age; I think this would be easier for the students. 4) I would also have the children keep track of how many answers they got wrong and right. 5) Lastly the class as a whole will go over the right and wrong answers; we will then discuss why they got the answers wrong and why they thought these answers were correct. Provision for special needs: All accommodations will be met for students with special needs. If the child is unable to use a computer his or her work will be completed with the help of the other students in the class. He or she will be able to give a couple of answers to questions.
CLOSURE The next African American History lesson children would draw pictures of how they thought people looked and dressed in those days, lastly write a short paragraph on what they would change if they had an opportunity to change anything back then.
