Academic achievement at CSM

  • Dean’s List (4.0 G.P.A.) Fall 2006 semester.

  • Awarded the Sigma Phi Sigma Mercy Honor in the Spring 2006 semester.
  • Awarded with the Distinguished Scholars Scholarship for the 2005-2006 school year.
    • I worked approximately 6-10 hours per week with my sponsor, Dr. Jennifer Reed-Bouley, to become more educated and active in Service-Learning.  I assisted in documenting on Service-Learning Grants and attended a workshop on Service-Learning in the Fall of 2005. Each month I also helped her with other logistics for implementing the Service-Learning Grant.

Leadership and service contributions to CSM and/or surrounding community

Mother McCauley’s Closet – approximately 30+ hours

  • This project consisted of working together with a group of education students from CSM to create a “closet” which contains materials and supplies for all CSM students to use while completing service-learning activities.
    • Created an estimated budget
    • Wrote a mini-grant to Dr. Jennifer Reed-Bouley
    • Bought materials within a given budget from the grant
    • Volunteered at the Fall 2006 Champions Walk to hand out fliers about closet. 
    • Held several game, toy, sporting good drives.

SEAN (Student Education Association of Nebraska)

  • Member since the Spring of 2003.
  • Secretary of SEAN for the 2005/2006 school year.
    • Responsible for taking minutes (notes) at each meeting and posting them to CSM SEAN Website.
    • Responsible for keeping attendance at each monthly meeting and recording it in an Excel Document.
    • Responsible for meeting with other SEAN Officers each month to finalize details for the next meeting.
  • Presented in January 2005 about the Belize Mission Trip.

SETA (Student education technology association) April 2, 2005 & April 1, 2006

  • Presented about the technology limitations in Belize on April 2, 2005.
  • Volunteered to help set up and organize different activities throughout the day of April 2, 2005.
  • Volunteered on the registration committee for the day of April 1, 2006.
    • Talked to CSM classes about registering for SETA.
    • Collected money and registration forms from participants.
    • Registered people the day of SETA.

Spirit of Service Day

  • Volunteered by painting the men’s locker room at the College on April 6, 2005.
  • Volunteered on April 6, 2006 to create a “Spiritual Garden” for Mercy Housing Residents.

Belize Mission Trip January 2, 2005 – January 10, 2005.

  • Mission trip with the College of Saint Mary and Faith Westwood United Methodist Church.
  • Taught the teachers of Belize about reading and math methods.
  • Organized a party for the children of Belize with activities, crafts, and snacks.
  • Presented my experience on February 23, 2005 for the students/faculty at CSM.
  • Interviewed for HER Magazine on March 1, 2005.

Special Olympics

  • Volunteered at the Special Olympics held at the College of Saint Mary on March 26, 2005.

Scholastic Book Fair

  • Volunteered for 4 hours in the CSM Library during the Scholastic Book Fair in Spring of 2005.

Operation SMART

  • An after school program affiliated with Girls Inc. for girls in elementary school.
  • Taught them science, social studies, math, and technology for 2 hours per week during the Spring 2005 and Fall 2004 semesters.

Girls Inc.

  • Volunteered to read to 1st and 2nd graders in the Fall of 2004 for approximately 12 hours.

Service Learning at Bergan Mercy Hospital

  • Took “goody bags” to the sick children in November of 2004.

Habitat for Humanity in Council Bluffs, IA

  • Volunteered in the Fall of 2004.

Miscellaneous

  • Completed over 200 practicum hours at daycares and elementary schools.
  • Consisted of assisting the cooperating teacher, observing, and volunteering my time in response to the teacher’s needs.
