Amy Carmody

Equipped with his five senses, man explores the universe around him and calls the adventure Science.

~Edwin Powell Hubble, The Nature of Science, 1954

I believe that each child starts with an innate sense of curiosity and as a teacher I want to jump start that curiosity by helping students to question what makes their world what it is.  As a science teacher I hope to show students how their surroundings both natural and manmade include a real relationship to themselves.

I believe it is important to include respect and responsibility in the classroom setting.  Students will be expected to show respect for one another and to be responsible for their class work, classroom, school and environment.  Each student comes from a different background and in order to understand each individual I believe in collaboration between the teacher, student, family and school administration.

Middle school and High School years are full of wonder, challenge, and curiosity and the study of science is so very closely related to these ideas.   I want to share my love of life long learning to my students, not just for the grade but for the sense of satisfaction it can bring to them.

"Men love to wonder, and that is the seed of science."                 Ralph Waldo Emerson
