Spring 2004
I believe that children learn from experience, therefore discovery learning should be encouraged. I also believe that children's learning is an ongoing process and is different from one child to another; therefore teachers must be flexible and strive to accommodate each child. I feel it is important to provide developmentally appropriate programs that focus on learning and enjoyment. I believe in working closely with the family as a team, because in order for success we must create a stable and nurturing environment for the child. Therefore, I encourage daily communication between families and staff. The classroom environment is also essential to learning so I believe it must be inviting to the child and each child should be allowed to contribute to this environment. I feel that classrooms should be arranged to offer challenging play and learning choices at a range of developmental levels. I also believe that it is important to have consistent, positive methods of discipline and for teachers and children to work together in making classroom rules. Thus, I feel that programs should be designed to develop in children a sense of independence and responsibility.

One hundred years from now, it will not matter what kind of car I drove, what kind of house I lived in, how much I had in my bank account, nor what my clothes looked like. But the world may be a little better because I was important in the life of a child. -Anonymous
