COURSE DESCRIPTION:  This course is designed for skill development in proper keyboarding techniques and the automatic functions of the computer.  Students will improve their typing speed and accuracy by using educational computer software.  This class meets opposite P.E. for one semester.

GRADING:

Approximately on-third of a student’s grade will be based on daily grades (time-on-task) through teacher observations.  The rest of the grade will be based on typing exercises that evaluate typing skills, accuracy and speed (calculated in gross words a/per minute).

Typing speed will be measured in gross words a/per minute (gwam) as calculated by MTM timed tests.  Typing assignments will be counted as passing if the average speed is 25 gwam or better.  Students will need to print out the final lesson reports or timed test reports to receive credit for work done.

 COMPUTER LABORATORY RULES:

q       No food, candy, drinks, or gum in the room

q       Do not touch any parts of the computer other than the mouse, keyboard, monitor, and CPU on/off button

q       No games or Internet on the computer

q       Only print after asking the teacher’s permission

MICRO TYPE MULTIMEDIA (MTM) PROCEDURES:

1.      Log On to the school’s network:

USERID: first 6 letters of your last name, first initial middle initial

PASSWORD:  your student ID number

 

2.      Log On to MTM

USERID:  BR4OD1 or BR4EV1

PASSWORD:  BROWN

3.      Put on your headphones and adjust the volume with the monitor’s speaker icon (in the lower right of the screen) or using the headphone’s volume knob.

4.   Complete the activities in order.   When each tab at the bottom of the application has a check mark on it, you have completed the activity.

5.   Print out the lesson report at the end of each MTM activity and hand it into the instructor.

6.   Take the timed test for the lesson and print out the timed typing test results.  Hand in the results to the teacher.

TIMED TYPING TEST PROCEDURES:

1.  Turn to the assigned time test page in the text book.

2.      Log On to MTM and click on the clock icon on the left side of the MTM screen.

3.      Click on the clock icon at the top of this screen to set the time.

4.      Set the default options listed to “count down for 1 min.” and no beeps.

5.      When you are ready, start typing for the full minute.

6.      Repeat the required lines as needed in order to type for the allotted time.

7.      When time runs out, print your timed test report and submit it to the teacher for grading.

8.      If you typed 25 gwam or more then you are finished with the current lesson.

9.      If you typed less than 25 gwam you need to do the practice exercise listed on your sheet.
