"Hakuna Matata"

Anticipatory Set:

Marcia will open the lesson with the Swahili phrase "Hakuna Matata" and ask the students if they know what it means. Students will also have opportunity to view authentic African items from Kenya.

Objective:

To introduce students to the geography of Kenya, providing information about the land, the people, and the economics of the region Masai Mara (NE Social Studies/History Standard 8.2.6)

Materials and Procedures:

Students will listen to a presentation on a region in Kenya. They may take notes over the information presented, and will be encouraged to ask questions and engage in discussion. Materials will include textiles, currency, jewelry, souvenirs, and photographs.

Closure:

Students will be tested over the presentation with a short quiz, consisting of six multiple choice questions.
