GRADING: Grades will be updated daily. I will send progress reports home bi-weekly. Grades in this class are based on homework, quizzes, tests, and notebooks. There will be no final exam. Grades will be figured by dividing the total points earned by the total possible points. You will earn points for the each activity as listed below:
Grades determined using the following scale.
GENERAL: You MUST use pencil for assignments in this class. To receive full credit for problems you MUST SHOW YOUR WORK. I cannot follow your logic and help you find where you can improve your work if you do not show your work. We will be working on math facts this year. Thus, calculators will not be allowed on some assignments. HOMEWORK: Homework is essential to having success in math. Math is very much like sports: you need to practice to be good. And in math, practice means homework. Homework will be assigned daily with few exceptions. You will have time to begin your homework in class and if you stay on task, you can generally complete your homework in class. Homework will be collected and graded the following class period. Homework will be reviewed prior to grading and students may correct their assignments during this review. QUIZZES: Essential Objectives will be graded as quizzes. If you must retake an essential objective, your grade will be the average of the test and retest. The problems given on tests will be similar to problems you are you have worked in class or for homework. TESTS: You will have an entire class period to complete the tests. The problems given on tests will be similar to problems you are you have worked in class or for homework. NOTEBOOK: You will be required to take notes in this class. Math is not a subject that you can learn just by listening to it being taught. You must write things down in order to remember them. If you miss a class, it is YOUR responsibility to obtain these. Notebooks will be collected and graded after we complete a chapter in the book. q Each day of your notes must be dated. q Your notes must be complete (this includes notes from days missed) neat, legible, and in chronological order. q Notes should include definition of terms, example problems, that the teacher writes on the board q You must have a copy of the course syllabus in the front of your notebook at all times. q You must keep an updated table of contents in the front of your notebook. CHEATING: Any student caught cheating will be given a zero for the assignment or test. This applies to those receiving answers as well as those giving answers. |
