Topics such as food and clothing are discussed in the article. The resources in this article are targeted towards any student of adolescent or older who in not in public school. The teaching techniques are specific instruction strategies that are particularly useful with Limited English Proficient Students. The assessment aspect contains some example of assessment for determine levels of English Language Proficiency. These activities would help assess reading, writing, speaking and listening.

The writer focuses on three different scenarios on how teachers could make the classroom a safe place for the international students; how to welcome the students, how to make adaptations, and where to locate resources and support information. This handbook is teacher and student friendly. It would create a good working relationship between the students and the teachers. The author presents ample examples of beliefs from different cultures. The knowledge of the various cultures would have to reduce stereotype or prejudice about other cultures.

Fetchtype=fullrecord: The aim of this article is to give the numerous reasons why learner assessment is conducted. The author supports the article with lots of details. Burt discusses various key issues in assessment, and highlights some of the differences between assessment and evaluation. The author presents some difficulties ESL educators encounter when assessing students’. For example, commercially available tests with adult learners is problematic because there evaluation piece may not adequately assess individual learner’s strength and weakness especially at the lowest level of literacy skills. This article also presents strategies that could help to promote learners’ literacy skills. The suggestions include:  Providing family literacy program, increase parents’ participation in children learning, parents reading more frequently to their children, and presence of more books in the home might indicate success. This paper will be a useful resource both learners and teachers.

This would help practitioners find materials they could use for placing students into classes. The author presents articles focusing on In-take, placement and goal-setting.  Adventures in Assessment have a wealth of scoop and materials in the area of placement, and goal-setting. This article also offers fourteen volumes write ups that emphases place and goal-setting. The information in this article would assist both teachers and students’ to concentrate on various ways of assessing continually in the classroom.

The author discusses about two training sessions in the article. Session one was on the workshop overview, ways monitoring students' progress, presentation of lesson plans, and demonstration: video presentation and fellow-up… The second session the writer talks about the materials, activities, and time allotment to each exercise. The informal and the formal ways of monitoring students' progress were well developed. The traditional formal way tends to focus on mastery of discrete subject matter. And the alternative assessment generally focuses on students’ ability to do and show their work.

The article focuses on effective classroom assessments. The purpose on the paper is to improve instruction and monitor learners’ progress. The discourse is divided into four sections. The first segment is divided into three parts: large scale assessment, alternative assessment, and published reviews of tests. The second, third, and fourth parts have updated citations on alternative assessments-portfolio, reading alternative, and mathematics alternatives. These assessment tools would help to improve academic reading, writing, and math skills. It would help students improve in their performance of literacy tasks related to everyday life. Student’s application of the lesson gained would improve their skills and abilities in the context of work, family, and other non-school environments.
