National Language Arts Standards:

1.  Students read a wide range of print and non-print texts to build an understanding of texts, of themselves, and of the cultures of the United States and the world; to acquire new information; to respond to the needs and demands of society and the workplace; and for personal fulfillment. Among these texts are fiction and nonfiction, classic and contemporary works.

3.  Students apply a wide range of strategies to comprehend, interpret, evaluate, and appreciate texts. They draw on their prior experience, their interactions with other readers and writers, their knowledge of word meaning and of other texts, their word identification strategies, and their understanding of textual features (e.g., sound-letter correspondence, sentence structure, context, graphics).

 Objectives:

To learn to use puppets as dramatic play items in play.

To learn the sounds of different animals.

 Assessment:

Observe students to see if they are working cooperatively in their group.

Observe students to see if they are following the direction that were given.

Observe students putting on their play.

 Materials:

A book about farm animals.

Pop cycle sticks

Several different colors of felt

Eyes

Markers

Crayons

Several different colors of construction paper

Glue

 Procedures:

 Anticipatory Set:

Read to the students a book about farm animals.

 Activities:

Have students spilt up into groups of four.

Have each student in the group make a different farm animal.

Have students decide in their groups a type of play they could put on using their farm animals.

Have students practice their plays.

 Closure:

Have each group put on the play they came up with in front of the class.
