Title: When I Grow Up Author: Emily Nielsen Grade Level: Kindergarten Integrated Disciplines: Language Arts, Art, and Voice NE Standards: 1.1.4—By the end of first grade, students will read and demonstrate comprehension at grade one level using a variety of strategies. 1.2.1—By the end of first grade, students will speak clear, complete, coherent sentences using standard English. Objectives: Students will draw a picture of what they want to be when they grow up. Students will share with the class their picture. Students will explain to the class what they want to be when they grow up. Students should use a clear voice in explaining to the class what they want to be when they grow up. Assessment: Teacher will keep a tally to make sure each student describes clearly to the class what they would like to be when they grow up. Materials: Art materials for students to draw a picture of what they want to be when they grow up. Procedures: Anticipatory Set: Ask the students if they have ever thought about what they would like to be when they grow up. Learning Activities: As a class brainstorm ideas of different occupations the children could be when they grow up. Tell the students they are going to draw a picture of what they would like to be when they grow up. When all students have finished their drawing students will share one at a time with the class what they drew. Students should use clear and complete sentences. Provisions for Special Needs: If a child needs helping coming up with what they want to be when they grow up they may be assisted. If a child has poor fine motor skills they may be assisted in drawing their picture of what they want to be when they grow up. Closure: Hang the pictures up around the classroom. |
