Springboard:

bullet

Teacher will discuss with the students what their favorite kind of food is.  Teacher will put the girls into groups and ask them to brainstorm different kinds of foods they could ask other smart girls about and narrow their foods down to 3 or 5.

Activities:

bullet

The groups will go to the computer lab to start the construction of surveys to give to other SMART girls.

bullet

The girls will estimate what food they think the other SMART girls will like most and least.

bullet

Each group will then be given copies of the survey they have made.  The girls will, with the help of a teacher, go to other SMART classrooms and have the girls fill out the survey.

bullet

After the surveys have been completed, the students will return to the room and turn their results into a completed graph.

bullet

When the graphs are completed the students will make observations regarding the similarities and differences between the data collected and the estimations they had made about the SMART girls favorite food.

Closure:

bullet

Each group will present their graphs and findings to the class.  They will discuss the results and any surprises they found.
