Title:   Scooter Shopping Spree

Equipment:

•                     1 scooter for each group

•                     food model pictures

•                     bag or basket

•                     paper and pencils

•                     food pyramid form

 

Warm-up (10 min):                

•                     Students will stretch all of the major muscle groups.      

•                     Students will do get into rows and do the following activities across the gym floor and back.

•                                             Jogging, high-knees, skipping, fast feet, 2 foot jumps, butt kicks, etc.

Skill Development Activities (20 min):

 

•    Students will work on various muscle group activities while “shopping” for foods to place in the appropriate food pyramid groups.

•  Students will divide into teams.  Each student will have a pencil, paper, and a food pyramid form.

•  Each student will take turns riding on the scooter to the “store” (the basket or bag) to select a food.  Students may only select one food item at a time.

•  After bringing the food back to their group, each student will record on their food pyramid which food group the food belongs in. 

•  The groups can continue taking turns and shopping for 15 minutes.

•  After the 15 minute shopping period, students will join all of their food together and categorize

Concluding Activities (5 min):

•  The groups will compare their food choices and decide which group had the most balanced and healthful food decisions.
