Introduction lesson plan

Integrated disciplines: Math

NE Standards:

1.5.1 By the end of first grade, students will collect information about objects and events in their environment (favorite candy bar, number of siblings, and number of pets).

1.5.2 By the end of first grade, students will organize and display collected information using objects and pictures.

Objectives: Students will be able to:

bulletIntroduce themselves to the class.
bulletMake a list of rules to fit our classroom.
bulletGive data about themselves.
bulletMake a classroom graph from the data.

Assessment: Evaluating the students understanding of the classroom graph by the questions answered by the students.

Provisions for special needs:  Partners can be used to assist the child with special needs.

Materials:

bulletPost-its
bulletWhite board with markers
bulletAll about you worksheet

Vocabulary:

Procedures:

Anticipatory Set: welcoming the students, introducing ourselves, discussing what they know about math

Activities:

 1.) Students will complete the “All About You” questionnaire.

 2.) Students will discuss ways to compare the information with others in                        the class.

3.) A graph will be made as a class to compare how the student’s answers compare to others in the classroom.       

Closure: Discuss how we made the graph and other information that could be used to make similar graphs.
